Student Leadership

We believe that student leadership is an important part of school life and plays a key role in helping students develop confidence, responsibility and independence. By taking on leadership roles, students learn to work collaboratively, communicate effectively and contribute positively to the school community. Leadership opportunities encourage students to become active citizens, build strong relationships with staff and peers, and develop valuable skills that will support them in further education, employment and everyday life.

Student Ambassadors

All students in the lower school have the opportunity to become a Student Ambassador for the day, ensuring every student experiences a leadership role during their time at KHSS as well as having an invaluable experience of the workplace. Working in pairs from the Student Reception office, Student Ambassadors assist staff with a range of day-to-day tasks, helping to support the smooth running of the school.

This experience develops confidence, communication, organisation and teamwork, while giving students a greater understanding of how the school operates and the importance of responsibility and service to others.

Student-Leader Ambassadors

Students in all years are nominated by their Heads of Year to become Student Leader Ambassadors, taking on additional responsibilities that support the day-to-day life of the school. Student Leader Ambassadors act as positive role models, assist with school events, welcome visitors, support younger students and work alongside staff to promote the school's values.

The role develops confidence, resilience and leadership skills while encouraging students to demonstrate responsibility, professionalism and initiative. It also provides valuable experience that can support future education, employment and leadership opportunities.

Student Council

Students from all years are democratically elected by their peers to join the Student Council, providing them with the opportunity to represent the views of their peers and contribute to school improvement. Council members gather feedback during form periods before meeting with senior leaders each term to discuss key issues and help shape future developments.

The Student Council empowers students to have a genuine voice in school life, while developing leadership, communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills. It also encourages students to take an active role in creating a positive and inclusive school community.

Sports Leadership

Students have a range of opportunities to develop their leadership skills through Sports Leadership. As they progress through school, students can organise sporting events, lead activities within PE lessons, coach younger students and support sports festivals and transition events for local primary schools.

Sports Leadership promotes teamwork, communication, organisation and confidence while encouraging students to lead by example. It also helps students develop coaching and mentoring skills, fostering a lifelong appreciation of physical activity, healthy lifestyles and community involvement.

We are committed to providing students with opportunities that extend beyond the classroom. Through our leadership programmes, students develop the confidence, character and transferable skills needed to succeed academically and become responsible, compassionate and well-rounded members of society.
